Talkwalker used to be the independent listening platform you picked for strong image recognition without a giant PR suite around it. Then Hootsuite announced it would acquire Talkwalker in April 2024. Since then, many teams ask the same question at renewal: is this still the right tool for us?
Short on time? Start with the quick picks below. Each card jumps to a deep dive with features, real prices, honest downsides and who the tool suits. At the end you'll find a checklist for leaving Talkwalker without losing your data or your queries.

Why teams leave Talkwalker
Talkwalker is still a capable product. But the same four issues come up at renewal time.
It is now part of a bigger stack. Hootsuite bought Talkwalker to add deep listening to its social media management suite. That is good news if you already run Hootsuite. If you do not, the roadmap may now point toward a stack you have no plans to use.
Every price starts with a sales call. Talkwalker's pricing page lists Core, Analyze and Business plans, all quote-only, with a demo but no trial. Core includes unlimited users, which helps. But Vendr reports a median contract of $13,298 a year, out of reach for many small teams.
A steep learning curve. The query builder is powerful, and that power has a cost. If only one analyst on your team can build a reliable search, the tool becomes a bottleneck.
Gaps outside English. Reviewers on TrustRadius ask for better coverage of non-English forums and note missing real-time data from LinkedIn and Facebook. If your audience talks on regional forums, messengers or local news sites, test that coverage before you renew.
"Pretty expensive" and "hard to master": the two phrases that keep coming up in Talkwalker reviews.
Those words come from Talkwalker reviewers on TrustRadius. Neither is a dealbreaker on its own. Together, they explain why so many teams now run a trial of something else before they sign again. For the bigger picture on the two jobs Talkwalker does, read social listening vs media monitoring.
The 8 alternatives in depth
Each deep dive opens with the three facts most buyers ask first: entry price, trial and seats.
1. Scano: multilingual monitoring

Scano is an AI media monitoring and social listening platform. It tracks news sites, social networks, messengers, blogs, forums and reviews across 1M+ sources in 20+ languages. It is strongest where English-first tools go thin: Türkiye, Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Gulf.
At a glance: from $417/mo billed annually · trial workspace on your own brand after a short demo · unlimited users on every plan
Features
- Coverage beyond the usual networks: Telegram channels and VK as well as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus news, blogs, forums and reviews.
- AI sentiment with dedicated models for English, Turkish, Arabic, Russian, Kazakh, Persian, Hebrew and French.
- Image and video monitoring: OCR reads text in images and video frames; speech-to-text transcribes what people say in videos and stories, including Telegram video notes.
- AI Analyst: ask questions about your mentions in plain language and get answers that link to the source posts.
- Daily digest and spike signals: a morning summary, plus alerts when volume or negativity jumps, sent to email and Telegram.
- 13 analytics reports, theme comparison and share of voice, with exports to Excel, Word and PDF and scheduled reports on your template.
- Smart tags classify mentions automatically, so you spend less time sorting.
- Social Space: a unified inbox for comments and messages on your own accounts (included in Business, an add-on below it).
- iOS and Android apps for the whole team.
Pricing
Prices are public on scano.me/price. Annual billing saves 15%.
| Plan | Monthly | Billed annually | Themes | Mentions / month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $490 | $417/mo | 5 | 10,000 |
| Professional | $1,290 | $1,097/mo | 15 | 150,000 |
| Business | $2,290 | $1,947/mo | 25 | 500,000 |
| Enterprise | from $3,900 | from $3,315/mo | 40+ | 1,000,000+ |
Starter billed annually comes to about $5,000 a year, well under half of Talkwalker's Vendr median. Professional adds 6 months of history backfill; Business adds 12.
Downsides
- No print, TV or radio monitoring.
- No journalist contact database or press release distribution. Scano builds a journalist directory from bylines, but you bring your own contacts.
- Mention caps are hard limits: you top up or upgrade when you reach them. There are no surprise overage bills, but Starter's 10,000 mentions fill fast for a busy brand.
- A smaller review footprint than the big suites, so you will rely more on your own trial.
Best for: PR teams, agencies and brands that need reliable monitoring in multilingual markets, want mentions inside images and video included, and prefer a published price to a sales-led quote.
2. Brandwatch: consumer research

Brandwatch is a consumer intelligence platform with a large archive of social data and an analyst-grade query language. It is part of Cision, which closed its acquisition of Brandwatch in June 2021. Of all the tools here, it is the closest to Talkwalker's research side.
At a glance: quote only · no free trial · seats set in your contract
Features
- Years of historical social data for research and trend analysis
- Advanced query builder and custom dashboards
- Influencer database of 30M+ creators
- Social media management alongside listening
Pricing: No public prices (pricing page). Vendr reports a median of $50,000 a year across 40 purchases, with a range of $19,542 to $81,200. Multi-year terms bring 15–25% off.
Downsides
- The most expensive option here. Reviewers on TrustRadius say it is "not as accessible for smaller businesses."
- No free trial.
- Data export is capped at 50,000 rows a day.
- Like Talkwalker, it works best with a trained analyst at the controls.
Best for: large research and insights teams that want more historical depth than Talkwalker, and have the budget for it. See our full list of Brandwatch alternatives.
3. Sprinklr: enterprise CX listening

Sprinklr sells social listening as part of Sprinklr Insights, one of four product suites next to Service, Social and Marketing. Its social listening page promises coverage of "30+ social and digital channels," with firehose access to 10+ of them.
At a glance: quote only · demo, no published trial · 12, 24 or 36-month terms
Features
- Listening across 30+ social and digital channels, including visual brand mentions in images and video
- AI sentiment, emotion, entity and topic classification
- Competitive benchmarking of share of voice and brand KPIs
- Crisis alerts with automated workflows
- Scheduled reports and out-of-the-box dashboards
- Connects to Sprinklr's customer service and marketing products
Pricing: Sprinklr publishes no prices; we could not find a public pricing page on its site. Vendr's Sprinklr page says pricing is "quoted annually based on the buyer's requirements," with 12, 24 or 36-month terms. Vendr also notes that contracts often auto-renew with 60–90 day notice periods.
Downsides
- No number you can budget against before a sales cycle.
- Built for very large organizations. If you only need listening, you are buying into a much wider platform.
- Long notice periods mean you must track renewal dates carefully.
Best for: large enterprises that want listening, customer care and social publishing on one platform, with an internal team to run it.
4. Meltwater: news and broadcast

Meltwater is a media intelligence suite. It combines news, social, broadcast and influencer data with a media contact database. If your Talkwalker use leans toward earned media coverage, Meltwater covers more of that job.
At a glance: quote only · no self-serve trial · 12-month minimum contract
Features
- News and social media monitoring in one platform
- Broadcast monitoring and influencer data
- Media contact database for outreach
- Analytics dashboards and reports
Pricing: No public prices (pricing page). Vendr reports a median of $25,800 a year across 126 purchases, plus $2,000–$10,000 for onboarding and 3–7% annual renewal increases.
Downsides
- Roughly double Talkwalker's Vendr median.
- Reviewers on TrustRadius (7.6 out of 10, 179 ratings) cite lock-in, price and complexity.
- One reviewer says it "misses mentions from less mainstream publications," which matters if your markets are regional.
Best for: larger PR teams that need news, social, broadcast and a contact database under one contract. If you are weighing it, read our Meltwater alternatives guide first.
5. YouScan: visual social listening

YouScan is a social listening platform known for visual analytics. It is the most direct swap for teams that chose Talkwalker for its image recognition.
At a glance: from $499/mo, billed annually only · demo, no trial · unlimited users
Features
- AI sentiment and trend detection
- Visual Insights for image recognition (top plan only)
- Insights Copilot, an AI assistant for questions about your mentions
- Alerts and integrations with team chat tools
Pricing: Starter costs $499 a month, billed annually only, for 3 topics, 15,000 mentions a month and 10 Copilot questions a month. The Unlimited plan, which adds the API, Visual Insights and Audience Insights, is quote-only.
Downsides
- Visual Insights, the main reason to pick YouScan, sits on the quote-only top plan.
- Annual billing only, and 3 topics is tight for a brand plus two competitors.
- Focused on social media rather than news coverage.
Best for: marketing and insights teams whose priority is social and visual brand presence.
6. Mentionlytics: self-serve with AI

Mentionlytics is a self-serve monitoring tool for social media and the web, covering news sites, blogs, forums and reviews too. Its AI assistant, SIA (Social Intelligent Advisor), summarizes mentions and suggests next steps, according to its homepage.
At a glance: from $49/mo billed yearly · 14-day free trial, no card · 2 users on Basic
Features
- Web monitoring across news, blogs, forums and review sites
- AI sentiment, emotion detection and translation of mentions
- SIA, an AI advisor that flags unusual activity and suggests actions
- Mention clustering on the Pro plan
- White-label reports from the Business plan up
Pricing (mentionlytics.com/pricing), billed yearly:
| Plan | Per month | Keyword rules | Mentions / month | Users | Updates |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $49 | 3 | 5,000 | 2 | Every 12 hours |
| Essential | $169 | 10 | 15,000 | 10 | Every 6 hours |
| Advanced | $299 | 15 | 50,000 | Unlimited | Continuous |
| Pro | $499 | 25 | 100,000 | Unlimited | Continuous |
| Business | $749 | 40+ | 200,000+ | Unlimited | Continuous |
Enterprise starts at $1,299 a month.
Downsides
- Basic refreshes only every 12 hours, and Essential every 6.
- AI emotion analysis starts on Advanced; mention clustering only on Pro.
- The prices above are for yearly billing; monthly billing costs more.
Best for: small marketing teams and agencies that want quick setup, an AI assistant and a low entry price.
7. Brand24: start without a demo

Brand24 is a self-serve listening tool with clear published prices. For a small team leaving Talkwalker, it removes the sales call entirely. Our Brand24 alternatives guide covers its peers.
At a glance: from $199/mo billed annually · 14-day free trial, no card · 1 user on Individual
Features
- AI sentiment, mention volume and reach analytics
- Influencer scoring
- Alerts for sudden spikes in mentions
- Reports and a mobile app
Pricing (brand24.com/prices)
| Plan | Monthly | Billed annually | Keywords | Mentions / month | Users |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Individual | $249 | $199/mo | 3 | 2,000 | 1 |
| Team | $349 | $299/mo | 7 | 10,000 | Unlimited |
| Pro | $499 | $399/mo | 12 | 40,000 | Unlimited |
| Business | $699 | $599/mo | 25 | 100,000 | Unlimited |
Enterprise starts at $1,499 a month. API access costs an extra $149.
Downsides
- Individual updates every 12 hours, and Team hourly; real-time updates start on Pro.
- Reviewers on TrustRadius mention missed mentions, slow support and sentiment accuracy.
- Lighter on news analytics and reporting than a media monitoring platform.
Best for: small businesses and solo marketers who want to start today without a demo.
8. Awario: the lowest price

Awario is the lowest-cost tool on this list. It suits teams that need basic listening and can accept tight limits on stored history.
At a glance: from $29/mo billed annually · free Starter trial, no card · 1 user on Starter
Features
- Unlimited keywords per topic
- Social and web mention tracking
- Sentiment analysis
Pricing (awario.com/pricing): Starter costs $49 a month, or $29 billed annually, for 3 topics, 30,000 new mentions and 1 user. Pro costs $149, or $89 annually, for 15 topics, 300,000 mentions and 10 users. Enterprise costs $399, or $249 annually, for 100 topics, 1,000,000 mentions and unlimited users.
Downsides
- Stored mentions are capped per topic; when you hit the cap, the oldest mentions are replaced.
- Starter allows only one user.
- Lighter analytics and reporting than Talkwalker or a media monitoring platform.
Best for: freelancers and very small teams that need to watch a few keywords for the least money.
Prices and plans checked October 2026. Vendr figures are buyer-reported medians, not list prices.
Before you leave Talkwalker
Switching tools is easy to start and easy to get wrong. Work through this list before you send a cancellation notice.
- Export your data. Download mention history, dashboards and past reports in formats you can open without Talkwalker, while you still have access.
- Find your notice period. Read the renewal clause in your contract and put the deadline in your calendar, with a reminder a month earlier.
- Copy every query. Save each Boolean search, keyword list and exclusion as plain text, so you can rebuild it in the new tool.
- Rebuild queries, then compare. Run the rebuilt searches on a past week you know well and check that the key articles and posts show up.
- List your alerts. Note every alert, who receives it and how often, so nobody misses a spike after the switch.
- Keep your report template. Save the monthly report your managers expect and rebuild it in the trial before you commit.
- Ask about history. Check how far back the new tool can collect. In Scano, Professional backfills 6 months and Business 12.
- Overlap for a few weeks. If your dates allow it, run both tools side by side before access to the old one ends.
How to test an alternative
Run every trial on the same brief, so you compare like with like:
- Use your real brand and two competitors, not the vendor's demo data.
- Pick a past week you know well, such as a launch or a crisis, and count how many key articles and posts each tool finds.
- Check your languages. Read 20 mentions in each language and judge whether the sentiment is right. Some tools score most non-English posts as neutral.
- Check forums and messengers. These are where reviewers say Talkwalker is thin outside English.
- Look inside images and video. Find a branded photo or video and see whether the tool picks it up with no text mention. Our guide to image and video monitoring explains what to look for.
- Build the report you send every month, and time how long it takes.

Free options
Talkwalker itself runs Talkwalker Alerts, which it calls a "free, easy alternative to Google Alerts." The Alerts app was still live when we checked. You choose news, X (Twitter), blogs or discussion forums, and get results by email, RSS or Slack, in 22 languages.
Google Alerts is the other free option, with the same limits. What you can get for free is a trial of a paid tool: Brand24 and Mentionlytics give 14 days with no card, Awario opens its Starter plan with no card, and Scano sets up a trial workspace on your own brand after a short demo.
The bottom line
The right pick depends on why you chose Talkwalker in the first place. Brandwatch goes deeper on research, at a higher price. Sprinklr ties listening to customer care in large companies. Meltwater covers more earned media, broadcast included. YouScan is the visual swap, and Mentionlytics, Brand24 and Awario cover cheap self-serve listening.
If you need reliable monitoring of news, social media and messengers in several languages and markets, including mentions inside images and video, Scano is built for that job. It starts well below Talkwalker's Vendr median, includes unlimited users on every plan, and publishes its prices. For the regional side, see our guide to Telegram monitoring.
Book a Scano demo and we'll set up a trial workspace on your own brand and competitors, so you can compare results with Talkwalker side by side.
